Kärt Ojavee (Ph.D.) is a designer, artist and lecturer who explores experimental active and interactive textiles in her practice based research. She has been collaborating with the Centre for Biorobotics (TTU) during her doctoral studies. In 2013 she graduated from the Estonian Academy of Arts with a Ph.D. in Art and Design (“Active smart interior textiles: interactive soft displays”) under the supervision of Dr. Maarja Kruusmaa.
At the moment she is a research fellow at the Interior Architecture Department, leading a lab of “Collected Materials” where students work on experimental materials. These materials are designed to decay, stimulate our senses or in some cases present new concepts of material perception.
She is a founder of Symbioos project together with Eszter Ozsvald in 2009. Together with Ozsvald and Susan Ngo an open-source electronics platform Heatit was developed. Recently she is designing for brands KO! and KAUN.
She has been rewarded a young designer award Säsi, II prize at Beopen Award and runner-up at the Core77 design awards in 2012. She has participated from exhibitions and had solo shows in Europe, Asia and USA.
